1. What is the difference between refinishing & refacing?
Refinishing, reuses the current doors & drawer fronts, applying a new painted finish. Refacing, replaces the current doors & drawer fronts with new ones, & the cabinet boxes are either painted to match, or skinned with a new material over top of the old.
2. How long does it take?
Our kitchen jobs are 2 weeks start to finish; one week in our shop, one week in your home. Larger kitchens, or projects where multiple areas are being refinished at once, may take more time, however, you will be made aware of this prior to us contracting work.
3. Will we be without our kitchen?
During the week we are in your home, you will lose access to your oven & dishwasher for 3 days. All other appliances are still functional during our process.
4. Can I pick the cabinet color?
Of course you can! We get our paints from Sherwin Williams, so it is best if clients choose a color from them, however, color matching is also available.
5. Is there a dust, smell or risk?
We carefully prepare the space before we begin work to minimize & virtually eliminate any fumes & dust from entering your home; we accomplish this by blocking off air vents, build a temporary plastic wall to seal off the work space, & venting out of a near by window or door. We also vacuum the sectioned off area at the end of the day, so anyone entering does not track anything to the other sections of the home.
Our paints are water-based with no VOC's so there are no health risks. The primer we use is a shellac based paint, & does have a strong rubbing alcohol smell, however, it is no worse than acetone used to remove nail polish, and again shouldn't make it to other parts of the home, when our venting is in place.
6. Will it peel or chip?
No it should not peel or chip, if it does there is something wrong with the care routine, or inappropriate usage is taking place; find the downloadable link down below, don't worry, we will leave you care sheet!
7. How long will refinishing last?
The paints we use are formulated for kitchen & bathroom cabinets, & comes with a manufacture warranty of 20 years. As with any painted finish the care & maintenance you give to the finish will prolong longevity of the finish. If taken care of properly your cabinets will stay looking "new" for as long as you own your home
8. Will I need to empty my cabinets?
Yes. In order for us to safely & properly prepare the cabinet faces for our finishes it is best your cabinets be empty, otherwise vibrations from the sander could make glassware fall out and break.
9. Can I replace the cabinet hardware?
Yes! We are able to get you new door hinges, including soft close door hinges if you would like. We do not sell handle hardware, but will install the new hardware provided by clients at minimal cost* Make sure to discuss these options with us when planning your project so we can be sure any holes from the old hardware are filled and provide a clean slate for your new hardware.
*Installation fee is only required if new holes are needed to be drilled. If the new hardware fits into the pre-existing hardware holes, there is no fee for this.
10. Is Phoenix Refinishing Inc. Insured?
Absolutely! For the protection of both of us we are fully insured to cover any accidents that may occur, however since 2015 we have never had to make a claim!
11. Is there a warranty?
Yes, we do offer a limited lifetime warranty for as long as we are in business. Full details of this warranty can be found below, & will be provided to you when leaving your home after job completion.
12. What are the payment terms?
When booking a job with us we require a non-refundable* 25% deposit. This saves your job date on our calendar, once your scheduled start date arrives & we begin dismantling the kitchen we collect an additional 25% of the contracted price. After the full 2 weeks are complete & a satisfied client walk through has been completed, we then collect the remaining 50% job balance from the clients.
*25% save the date deposits are non-refundable because if we book your job out 3 months in advance & then when your job start date comes you cancel the job, we now have no work for 2 weeks. Clients whom are scheduled to start after that date are often do not have a schedule flexible enough to be called & moved up on the colander with such short notice. I do still need to pay my employee, for that time, and although most times the 25% deposit does not fully cover payroll for the job, it does help with some compensation to my workers for the lost wages.
13. What forms of payment are accepted?
We accept cash & checks mostly. We are able to process cards, however, we do this though PayPal which does take a processing fee to process based off of the percentage of the payment. If a card payment is requested you may be asked to cover the processing fee as well. We are currently working on other payment options that will give clients the option to make installment payments, & will update as soon as this option becomes available.
